Description
CLS has operated his 2856 MHZ injector since the early 1960 to May 2024. The linac saw some modifications overtime and the decision to upgrade it stemmed from its electron source failure, that saw the facility down for 6 months in 2018. In 2021 a new technical specification was written and Research Instruments won the bid to install a more compact turn-key injector that would naturally synchronize the injector beam with the Booster and Storage ring operating frequency. In May 2024 the dark time to install and commission the new injector started and ended in October 2025 when user operation resumed. We will review the issues we encountered during our commissioning period.
